New outgoing email policy
Description
To reinforce the protection of E-mail spam messages which are sent out silently from our customers computers as a result of malware or virus infection and which cause the interruption of other normal E-mail communication, EZECOM would like to inform you that we are now implementing a new E-mail communication policy as below and this policy will be in effect as on 01-04-2010.
As you all may be aware, today the whole world is very alert about spammers and are having more stricter controls to minimise the spread of spam immediately. This is mainly done by tagging any IP address of a mail server or any ip address as such which originates email which is classified as spam by the popular spam programs. Once an IP address of a server or even a whole range of ip address is black listed it is disastrous to any one involved.
From an ISP's point of view it means loss of mail service for the all the clean customers. From an end users perspective it could be the management not being able to email due to carelessness of the staff.
If it is an internet cafe the controlling options are limited but the users could use the well known method of SMTP authentication where by an email can only be sent out after authenticating using a valid username and password.
As per recommendation, all customers not having a fixed ip and who are not known to have proper in house email security measures in place will not be allowed to send out emails through SMTP port 25 to the outside world.
- Direct outgoing SMTP connection to mail servers beside EZECOM's mail servers on the well-known port 25 will be blocked, though it can be allowed for particular user upon a formal request to EZECOM.
- Outgoing E-mail communication through EZECOM's mail servers will have to use authentication (require user to login before being able to send e-mail).
- Secure E-mail communication ( Encryption ) can be enabled per user preference.
We also would like to request for your cooperation in setting your E-mail client program to work with this new policy or in case you are using outgoing smtp mail server other than EZECOM's server please contact us before the above date.
