Cambodia's First and only privately-owned multipurpose Indoor facility Beeline Arena will host the inaugural National Futsal Championship from October 28th to November 2nd in association with the Football Federation of Cambodia.
Immensely popular as supporters of street football, Tiger Beer have stepped in as the main sponsor for the 2013 Edition which is uniquely open for both amateurs and professionals with a field restricted to 32 teams. The week-long process of free team registrations on a first come first serve basis was completed earlier this month. Team leaders were given an extensive briefing on the rules of the game and code of players conduct during a meeting organized by the FFC.
Multinational Beverage brand Coca Cola and Internet Techno giants Ezecom are providing an additional layer of support as co-sponsors for this event which signifies FFC's first attempt to give the shorter version of the game a structured national format.
There are hundreds of outdoor playing fields in Phnom Penh catering to thousands of players enjoying mini football but Beeline Arena is the only one conforming to the international standards set by FIFA for Futsal.
"This is what makes the inaugural Futsal Championship special. Our aim is to promote sports in Cambodia and through this popular and exciting event like Futsal we are set to roll out our mission" General Manager of Beeline Arena Charles Julliard said. "Beeline Arena and the Football Federation of Cambodia have signed a Two-year Memorandum of Understanding to organize the Futsal Nationals in 2013 and 2014 but we hope to make this an annual show piece event in Phnom Penh.
This will mark the beginning of a new phase of Futsal development in the country" Charles Julliard said. "Without the support of organizations like Tiger Beer, Coca Cola and Ezecom it would not have been possible to launch a major event like this" he said.
